Andrew Smith moves to innovation-focused role at ClearBank

ClearBank, the Banking-as-a-Service provider, has today announced that Andrew Smith has taken on a new, innovation-focused role within ClearBank with immediate effect.

Previously CTO, Andrew’s new role focuses on delivering innovation for ClearBank and its customers in the ever-changing digital landscape, including the development of ClearBank’s strategic partnerships with other innovative companies.

Nigel Walder, ClearBank’s COO, has assumed overall responsibility for ClearBank’s technology platform, supported by Thomas Harris - Head of Engineering, Steven Hawkins - Head of Dev Ops, and Luke Wheeler - Head of Platform, who have all taken on broader roles.

As an active participant and advocate for the FinTech industry, Andrew’s new position allows him separately to expand his involvement in the wider FinTech community, having taken an additional (external) role at RTGS.global alongside ClearBank’s founder and Investor Director, Nick Ogden. Launched in September, RTGS.global is spearheading an initiative to deliver the world’s first cross-border liquidity network.

Charles McManus, CEO of ClearBank said:

“I am delighted that Andrew has taken up this new role. Andrew has successfully built an excellent technology team here at ClearBank, which will now benefit from Nigel’s extensive experience and oversight.”

“Andrew has been at the heart of the ClearBank genesis since the beginning and has been instrumental in building the bank to date. With his new focus on innovation, combined with the wider industry remit gained through his involvement at RTGS.global, Andrew is uniquely positioned to identify new technologies and opportunities for ClearBank in the future.”

Nick Ogden, Founder & Investor Director of ClearBank commented:

“Innovation was key to the creation of ClearBank and continues to be a vital part of its evolution in maintaining the UK’s leadership position in transactional banking. I am now leading a number of additional FinTech related initiatives that I believe can complement ClearBank innovation and the wider financial services industry in due course.”
